View Full Version : What audio gear do you plan to buy in 2007?
Just curious what is on member's purchase list this year...
I'm considering a record cleaning machine and a new preamp.

More Dyanco transformers (ST70).
Maybe another set of 3 for my second rig.

Every year I replace about a third of the tubes in my system.
I would like to get some more room treatment.

I bought a new table (VPI Aries 3) and some new power cables (JPS Analog & AC+). I also picked up a VPI 16.5 cleaning machine and some new tubes.

I'm treating my Heath mono amps to a tune-up. Does that count?
I bought too much stuff last year. I've decided it's time to take a break. My wife helped in the decision. :)

I was planning on getting a new digital player but have changed my mind and will wait, if I can, for at least a year. If I can I'll wait two years. The main reason to hold off is the absence of digital inputs on players. They all come with digital out but not digital in, which is kind of dumb in 2007. Actually it is now a backwards configuration.
I was thinking earlier of also upgrading preamp/amp but began to wonder if this would really upgrade my listening pleasure. So although I did look around much for new stuff for 2007, lately I'm asking myself if I've I paid too much attention to hardware, to the detriment of music? When is good enough, good enough? We'll see.

Why do you need a digital in? Are you just wanting to use it as a DAC?

The new Bottlehead Tape Preamp when it becomes available and an SME 20. First I have to get off my **s ans sell some LP's for the SME 20. I'm shooting for Oct.

1) A VPI Synchronous Drive System for my Scoutmaster
2) Speaker cables for bi-wiring
3) Power conditioner
4) Automatic record cleaning machine
5) CD/SACD/DVD-A player (stereo)
6) Another audio rack (does this count as gear?)
7) Other stuff I have not thought of that will be suggested by forum members!

Why do you need a digital in? Are you just wanting to use it as a DAC?Yes, sort of. I like simple, minimal boxes, minimal fuss. If I could I'd have a universal player that would accept digital data. One box for SACD/DVD/DVD-A/CD/streamed digital, and aside from the DSD, the PCM would be of the same quality.
I'm only aware of these three CD only players with digital input:
Cambridge Audio Azur 840C ($1375 USD)
Arcam FMJ MS250 music server ($4500 USD)
Simaudio Moon SuperNova CD player ($5200 USD)
There's lots of universal players but the digital-in is missing. Am I really asking for too much? NAD has a new universal; put digital input on it and I'd probably buy it tomorrow. I thought the R&D technology guys were supposed to have an idea about where things were headed and what we wanted. :)

Sure, now if the wife was getting a new rack, that too would be considered an upgrade. ;)
Disclaimer: Silly remark intended for no-one in particular, so not offensive....hopefully.

What about some new speakers? I've heard you're interested in Maggie 3.6s.

I spent a lot of money on new speakers in January. I've totally blown my upgrade budget for 2007. :sigh:
(Of course, I am still buying additional records.)

A passive line control stage (probably the Placette, or their active unity gain preamp). Room treatment devices (traps and such).
Possibly a new turntable and arm, or maybe that will be next year. If I do the turntable I'm gonna go for the final solution - A Kuzma together with their straight-tracking Airline arm. I read that they're going to come out with a cartridge too - I'll have to check that out to see how good it is. A complete package for playing vinyl would be so cool. I've been waiting a loooong time to do any upgrades. Some of my equipment is 20+ years old and kinda mid-fi.

I'd love some 3.6s but I'm not sure I will have the budget. :)
Always starting trouble.
