hoo boy, wasn't tonight's episode good? :righton:
I thought it was brilliant showing Jason Street not making the quad rugby team, then coming back to Dillon and coaching Matt Sarenson on how to beat their opponents in the upcoming playoff game.
Some really strong writing in tonight's episode.
yeah, I'm a fanboy...

I bet you have a small screen TV and the shaky photography doesn't bother you, right?

Mighta known I shouldn't be reading this yet - I'm three episodes behind!

Does this series have anything to do with the original movie?

No; you could say the book/movie was a "springboard" to launch the series' own story and characters in the same sort of environment. It's also more character-driven.

I keep meaning to watch this show, I actually lived about 4 blocks from Permian in the timeframe of the movie.

50" plasma. In hi-def it isn't a problem, in standard def yeah it might give me nausea. It's supposed to give the feeling of a documentary although it's just another multi-character prime time drama.
Kyle Chandler does a fairly revealing interview on NBC.com where he comments on the "sniper camera" concept of filming. The actors get very little rehearsal, they are put in a room together and the scene is played almost like reality TV, and there are 4 or 5 cameras picking up different angles of the action.
But it's the writing that attracts me, that and *ahem* Minka Kelly. ;)
Last night's episode (3/28 "Mudbowl") was downright masterful. I haven't seen a show with this much heart in years. It's the only thing on TV where I feel like a better person for having watched it. The cast is unreal.

I don't know. I've never seen either. Everytime I see the words "Friday Night Lights" I think it is just a brand of cigarette smoked on Friday Nights.

Loved last nights episode. Great writing and the actors are all spot on. As far as the shaky effect Steve mentioned, I watch on a 50 inch screen and I've never really noticed it. Too sucked it to the story I guess.

Yep, more often than not I end up misty-eyed by the end. Absolutely brilliant writing, and the idea of building a football field in a cow pasture for the semi-final playoff game was straight out of Field of Dreams. I also have to compliment Snuffy Walden, this program has some of the most evocative theme music I have ever heard on a TV show.

Same here. Last night there was one sequence where the shaky camera broke my concentration, other than that it isn't an issue for me either.

ok as for last night's episode, any opinions? I do miss the football related stuff, their best episodes mix the drama with the action of football games. It's getting just a bit soap-opera for me, still I enjoyed the episode.
Season finale next week, I want some FOOTBALL!

I was thinking how soapy it is, too, but what good soap it is, esp. the Landry/Tyra storyline. I relate to Landry, and I want him to get the girl. :agree:

Agree totally, definitely need the football angle to balance some of the teen drama. Still enjoyable but Lets get to the state final! Go Dillon!

Best acting in a series on TV , IMO.
What a finale! I sure hope this isn't the end of the series. It's the best thing on television since West Wing, imo.

I think we won't know the answer to that question until Upfronts.

I agree Jeff. I really enjoyed this show from the beginning. It held up well even with NBC messing around with it's scheduling. I believe it started out on Tuesday nights..then they moved it to Mondays, then to Wed!!!Geesh!!!
I'm looking forward to the next season!
BTW, If anyone missed the finale....The Bravo channel reruns FNL on FRIDAY NIGHTS at 6pm EST.

I don't even like football and I like FNL (wish a real football game only took as long as last night's game). I'm sure it will be back, and so will Mr. and Mrs. Coach.

I'd be satisfied with just Mrs. Coach...! ;) In the right vehicle...
After last night's finale I participated in a live online chat with Connie Britton & Kyle Chandler here:

Kyle seems to imply a second season is forthcoming. Hope he's right!

yeah that was a good 'un. My favorite bit was when the Panthers first walked out onto the Dallas Cowboy's field and seeing the wonderment on their faces.. "soak it in" Coach Taylor said. Nice how ambiguously it ended, one of the best open-ended finales I've ever seen. If this is the last season it wrapped nicely; if they are renewed the door is still open. Thing is, how many of the players are seniors, meaning they won't be back next year? And if it really takes off into a 5-year arc, they'll have to introduce new characters almost every season, eh?
Still, it is a magnificent blend of writing, acting, visual style and soundtrack. Snuffy Walden does a marvelous job at writing evocative music that is perfectly complementary to the action on screen.
Lila... *sigh* but Tyra has been lookin; pretty good lately too! :righton:

Imply? I think he already knows something:
Kyle: I've never been part of such a great show! So many reviews say we're a great show, so I look at it like the little engine that could. We're just continuing to struggle a long and the second season, we're gonna do some damage and get some great ratings!! We're gonna kick some ***! We're gonna open a can of whoops *** on these folks, be prepared! We're just so excited to get a second chance, we're HUNGRY to make it work and make it even better. We're gonna have a great year!!
