I was wondering if any other members have replaced a VPI HW-19xx turntable with their new Scout?

Any comments on comparing between the new turntable and the older design?

I was told by my VPI dealer that I should just full upgrade my JR and, I would have a better table, and that they didn't really care for the JPW arm and that the rega RB300 was fine!:D

I have a VPI-19 mkIII and I've been very happy with it for the last few years. I sometimes think about maybe upgrading to a higher end table. If I was to do it then I think I would sell the mkIII and throw a bit more money into an Aries or (God forbid) a TNT. I think I would be aiming sideways or even down for the new Scout. If someone wants to buy their first TT or upgrade from a modest player then the Scout would be nice and ideal. I say stick with the Jr. and do the upgrades or look for something a few notches up...

I don't think there is much upgrading you can do to a Scout. What you see is what you get. But for the keep it simple group, its probably a great choice. Art Dudley gave it a great review in Stereophile.

I think I just read yesterday that you can upgrade a Scout with TNT platter and bearing, and of course, the SDS drive.
