in keeping with the clint eastwood thread, the word is that ford, speilberg and lucas have found and agreed on a script for a new indiana jones movie, probably out sometime during '08.
should they have re-cast the part? if so, for whom?

He is too old now, but if they do a "later days" movie for the character, it could work out quite well.

Oh gawd, I hope they don't recast. I can't stomach Ben Affleck in that role.
I think if they did it right - acknowledging Ford's age - it could be alright.

They are a clever bunch. The script they've agreed on is by a real pro, David Koepp. So, I'm allowing myself to enjoy the anticipation.
They did the family/aging issue perfectly, IMHO, in the last one with Sean Connery, so I have no doubt it will work on this one.

And if they have to get a "younger" love interest for Harrison then see what Helen Mirren is up to!

It's only been what, 24 years since the original, so it's not terribly difficult to believe Indiana Jones would still be on the hunt for the "Next great adventure."
I really hope they come up with something fresh, however, like Raiders Of The Lost Arc rather than another silly plot like "Temple Of Doom." Not that T.O.D. isn't amusing and a fun watch, but it seemed too cartoonish for me (with the boy, the elephants, etc.).
I guess Raiders will always be the measuring stick and a difficult act to follow. That movie (for me, anyway) really was ahead of it's time. Still, I will be plopping down my 10 bucks opening night no matter what the reviewers say.

While it may be impossible to find the right person, they could get a lot more mileage out of the Indiana Jones character by casting someone new. We've had several James Bonds, why not a new Indy?

be that as it may, if you'll recall, TOD was the first movie to be slapped with a PG-13 rating for violence.

I have mixed feelings...maybe he should play the Dad this time.

Nope - this is a common misconception. Along with other flicks like "Gremlins", "Doom" was one of the fairly graphic movies that led to the CREATION of PG-13. It was - and still is - rated PG...

Must have been for the "bleeding heart" scene, or perhaps the sexual overtones?
Again, not a bad movie, but it just didn't compare (and not even close) to Raiders Of The Lost Arc (for me, anyway).
I guess it's a lot like the musical example whereby "You have your entire life to write the first album and only two years to write the follow-up." In this case you can substitute "script" for "album."

I understand that the new film will be set in the 1950s, so that Indy will have aged appropriately. I believe this time setting was insisted upon by Ford.
I am looking forward to this. It should be good. I hope Sean Connery will make an appearance.
They should probably introduce a son character - that would be Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones III, or something;)
They could have all three in the same movie if Sean Connery is up to it:)

It seems Connery won't make it.
Anyway, I think it's pretty cool getting a new Indy again.
I just hope the new screenplay could match Kasdans'.
To be frank, the newest SW flicks didn't live up the antecipation.

Why not? He's not going to play Indy as if he was 20+ years younger than he is.

My impression is that he was always up for it. I remember seeing Barbara Walters interview him maybe ten years back and she asked him about playing Han Solo and Indiana Jones again. He said Han was "a thin character for me now" or something like that, but said he'd love to play Indy.
Not to mention, he doesn't have much going on, career-wise. I can't imagine he'd pass up another Indy movie, even if he wasn't already looking forward to it, which I believe he was.
I bet it'll be good. Last Crusade good, which for me means very good but not quite Raiders good. And no, I can't imagine anyone else in the role. (Especially their first choice back when they were casting Raiders, Tom Selleck.)

I saw this interview. When Walters asked him if he'd ever play Indiana Jones again, his response was "in a New York minute".
