ZZ Top Gnus?

I'm sorry if I have asked this before, but I admit that I am a pest...

I have been waiting for sum intelijent outfit to release the "Top" catalog in its original state...Steve, can you share any words on DCC's possible quest into the Top catalog?

Also, I picked up an old copy (1990) of Monster Rock 'N Roll Show...sounds like you had some fun puting that together! I have never heard "Monster Mash" sound that well-defined...nice job. :D

Great googly moogly - a clean transfer of Tush (with maybe some genuine, honest bass and drums)??? Greatest hits is super fine ok with me as long as that digital remix stuff is verboten!

You gotta hear this copy of Tush on ZZ Tops: The Best of ZZ Top 10 Legendary Texas Tales, no big goofy drums on this one. It doesn't say what year it was made though. American release on WB. ;)

There were two different versions of "Legs" on Eliminator. Supposedly, the only differences are on vinyl. The 1st one didn't have a lot of synth all over it, and they later reissued the LP with the new version with MUCH more synth in the mix. The DJ version 12" said "remix" and this is what you should hear on the stock copy of the Eliminator CD.

Curious thing: When you play 2nd side of Eliminator (after "Bad Girl") on a turntable that isn't automatic, you can distinctly but faintly hear a Texas voice in the inner groove of the record...repeating...

"Oh, Mercy....! (click)...Oh, Mercy....! (click)...Oh, Mercy....! (click)...etc..."

Neat, huh?

Have a question: Did they redo the vocals of Mexican Blackbird on Fandango for Six Pack? A coworker who had the orginal album noticed the differences to the Six Pack remix. I don't have the orginal mix of that album to A/B them, so I don't know.

I have the Best of ZZ Top and clearly they redid the opening vocal of Jesus Just left Chicago for Six Pack.

I, too, want the orginal mixes. I hated Six Pack. Edited songs (Francine, Back Door Love Affair) and an attempt to update the sound.

Good chance they went to the multi's to remix everything in Hollywood-type sound, and sometimes they seemed to use vocal tracks they didn't use origianlly. "Just Got Paid" for instance, it's a whole different mix, with guitar parts never there before. My guess is, that's a different take altogether. "Jesus Left Chicago" has another completely different vocal take to the London LPs, like you said. No, everything's messed with one way or another. Someone got wild ideas and USED them!

If it was in the Bill Ham hands, the man had no care for the magic in the original sound or even arrangements. It's two different animals. Donno 'bout Mr. Ham.

Food for thought...If anyone's curious, Listen to "Jesus" on both the London version, then the WB reissue from Tres Hombres (mirrors the 6 Pack) It's just a small 714 KB Mp3 sound example:

So without having a London LP of Fandango!, I would say, I bet they WERE different vocals. If I see a Fandango on London, I'll grab it for curiosity. I passed up a Tres Hombres on London, and I regret it. Ah, next time!

Thanks for the link. Yeh, big difference. I'm happy to wait for Steve H to get the original mixes. I hope we see a ZZ Top CD with his magic touch!

Maybe he can do the Best of (I'd like added tracks, like from Tejas. That album was overlooked). Or how about a two-fer Tres Hombres/Fandango (if it fits on a CD. Don't know of the total running times of these albums together). Nice thought! :D
