This looks good for a $50 street price unit. Plus, it's made in the USA. Anyone use one of these?

Take care and thank for your time.

I've been wondering about this, too. The tubed version, of course, has gotten generally rave reviews.

Is this just an SS version of the Bellari, then? The Bellari is nice for $200, but it won't make you throw your CD player away.

Yes, this is just the older solid state phono pre-amp Bellari makes.

I'm sure it has some approximation of the RIAA curve but what can you really expect for the price. It super-cheap and will get the job done but if you expect foot-rubs forgetabout it.

Rolls is the manufacturer of Bellari, true?

I dunno it's very tempting for $50 street price....:edthumbs:

No, I don't expect it to floor me, actually I won't expect much. However, I'm thinking it might surprise me.

There's only one way to find out, right?

So, the Rolls is the same as the Bellari, just solid state?

Yep. Guitar Center sells the Rolls; I assume Bellari is just a "high-end" Rolls offshoot with their own line of products. Sorta like Sony/Sony ES, Pioneer/Pioneer ElitE, Onkyo/Integra, et al.

As Jim says, Bellari is the "tube division" of Rolls...

Rolls itself is a low budget pro audio company...not much good in terms of sound quality, IMHO. But the gear is functional, if that's all you can spend...

Ok, thank you. I'm trying to find a phono preamp that I don't have to spend an arm and a leg on.

I already asked Rolls if there's any difference between the VP29 and the Bellari. Other than the Bellari having tube(s) I'm curious to see what they say.

Here's their email.

I heard back from Rolls...this is what they had to say.

"No the RIAA and gain structure in the two are completely different."

If you are looking for really cheap, look here: phonopreamps.com
and reviewed here:http://www.tnt-audio.com/ampli/t-preamp_e.html

I've ordered from them & their service is very good.

Hi, all. With Steve's Joy Division LPs coming next month, it is time for me to get a preamp. I was just curious to get an update on this Rolls preamp. Has anyone had any experience with it? I know I would not exactly be getting top-of-the-line reference quality with budget solid state, but it fits my budget nicely. Any additional comments are much appreciated. Thanks.

Well... I recently may have had an issue with this model (http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=121944). It may be a fluke - and that stuff happens and i'll know in a few days when the replacement arrives. But I will say this - it's small and lightweight - I hope my scenario was a one in a million mishap. For the second that it worked, it sounded great... :sigh:

I was reading that thread the other day. Thanks for the input. Keep us updated. I hope everything works out with it and you can tear open the nex records. Thanks.

Rolls builds for Bellari, Bellari appropriates other designs. What does Bellari do? Just sales I guess.

It's a piece of junk. I sent mine back to Parts Express for a full refund.

I use a DJ mixer for my phono preamp in my bedroom home theater system and also to hook up all of my audio components into the system as well. For my DVD players and VCR/DVD Recorder combo, I use this: http://cgi.ebay.com/RF-Modulator-RCA-Converter-w-3-Channel-Video-Selector_W0QQitemZ130139226420QQihZ003QQ categoryZ32831QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQc mdZViewItem
