Looks good Steve! I enjoy Hugh Grant's movies...
Amazing the legacy Drew comes from...

Looks like a typical date movie which might actually appeal to some of us forum people due to the music connections.
I'm going to see it due to the fact that they spent some time shooting at my old "first job" at Adventureland Amusement Park on Long Island. My sister (who's been there since I got her the job back in 1991!) is a manager now, and she sent me a bunch of photos of her and Drew....pretty cool stuff!
(That was part of my family's "2006's claim to fame"!)

I was never a Drew fan until recently, and now I really enjoy her movies. She also has a great name. :)
I've liked the Hugh Grant movies I've seen, especially "About A Boy".
However Steve, the answer to your question is, ahem: yes.

I find Drew to be irresistably adorable, so I'll see just about any film she's in. This has the added attraction of being related to the 80s pop-music scene, during which I was an MTV junkie. I'll be seeing it this weekend.

It's getting pretty good reviews, so it might be decent...

She lost a lot of credibility with me by producing and starring in the Charlie's Angels movies. For us, this is a high priority 'rent me.'

I saw just a few seconds of Hugh prancing about onstage, and I almost lost sit. I also every much enjoyed HG in Two Weeks' Notice. I'd go see it. BTW isn't the title "Music and Lyrics"?

My thoughts exactly!

The only thing I've seen Hugh Grant in recently was About A Boy, and I liked it. This would have the added plus of being about people in a field I'm interested in...so long as it feels real, and not just surface.
Still, my "chick film" detector is buzzing loudly...

Oh, it's clearly a chick flick, but that doesn't mean it'll be bad...

Indeed. Words and Music is the title of a 1948 film, one of the dread "bio-pic musicals" with about .01 of a gram of actual bio in it, some great old songs and one or two numbers in the film which are actually sorta worthy. My knowledge of which makes me feel older than... however old Steve is concerned he's feeling :D
Music and Lyrics may or may not be a good 'un, but it'd be hard for it to be worse than Words and Music. Not to say they couldn't pull it off.

I enjoy Hugh Grant, but does anyone get the feeling he's been playing the same basic character throughout his career: easily-flustered, tight-lipped, emotionally closed until a lady comes along and changes that all for him?
Regardless, my wife and I are gonna check out this movie!

He has two characters -- the "Four Weddings and a Funeral/Notting Hill" character you mentioned and the cheeky womanizer from "About a Boy" and "Bridget Jones' Diary."

Chick Flick.
I saw this with my wife on Valentines. The Pop! fake 80s group is hilarious. Hugh and Drew have some good screen chemistry and the storyline is good. Kinda chick movie but very entertaining. Good date movie.
It also manages to skewer the music business very good with a Britney/Christina like character that Hugh and Drew get involved with.

I saw it on Valentine's Day, too. Good date movie. There is some nice chemistry between Hugh and Drew, especially in the scenes where they are writing the song together. It could have been a little funnier...I didn't ever really laugh out loud. But I smiled through a lot of it.

I'll go. I usually try to see movies that have something to do with the music business.

I liked it, and I usually despise the majority of 'chick flicks' out there.
The original music is quite catchy as well (written by Adam Schlesinger)...

I notice in one of the trailers that they go into a "record" store and look at CDs. I can't help think that those days will soon be over.
Unless they peruse a BestBuy....which of course wouldnt even carry an older title.

We were going to see another movie but it wasn't playing (the print didn't show up at the theater) so we saw this - I actually thought it was pretty good. I had very low expectations for it but I'm a fan of 80's music and I thought the original music was surprisingly good (for pop music).

Hey John: I went to see the movie after work, and I'm quite sure that scene was filmed in the Tower up on B'way and 66th--I think we shopped there once or twice! Kinda sad to realize it's gone now...
I liked the movie alot, some nice humor, and I've just added the soundtrack CD to my shopping list.
