I got this cartridge with a D1200 stylus on a used turntable about 8 months ago. I have been using this without really knowing how many playing hours are on it. It sounds fine but I am thinking I need to get a replacement stylus. I have been looking online and I noticed many sellers have optional replacement styli for the XV15 1200E. I don't see any D1200's. What would be a good replacement to chose from? Or a replacement that is not too expensive but still nice.

Hi,

Stanton discontinued the Pickering line. Among other good products. Try KABUSA for a replacement. He likely has them NOS. I wish Stanton had never been bought out and moved to Florida. They have discontinued so many of their fine audiophile cartridges. Quality control is also inferior too.

It's certainly worth trying to get a replacement stylus for it as the cartridge is quite nice sounding and an easy match for most MM phono stages. I'm still using a Stanton 500E by the way.

The D11S stylus should fit your cart and is a true Stereohedron/line contact stylus—here (http://www.kabusa.com/frameset.htm?/pickering.htm).

I wondered that too a while back. I found out that it is an independent company not affiliated with the original Stanton/Pickering, and they're selling off new-old-stock cartridges and styli.

If I had an XV-15 cartridge body, I'd buy that D-11S stylus that Damián pointed out in a heartbeat.

First off it's a nice cartridge BUT stylus NOS type are hard to find and when they do come up on Ebay they go for big bucks plus there always seems to be a bidding frenzie at the end.
I don't think that D11S fits those bodies I contacted Kevin at KAB and if memory serves me rite he said they didn't You can check though there is a cross reference chart on his web site.

I checked the cross reference chart (http://www.kabusa.com/STANTONX.HTM). It looks like the D-11S will fit the XV-15.

....and if the Pickering D11S and D1800S styli are not available, the equivalent type Stanton D6800EEE or D6800EEE-S will also work.

That's good to know. Are they easy to find?

This ebay seller has 5 of them. Of course, if you want better, go to www.kabusa.com - they have the D11S stylus, which is a Stereohedron type stylus, while the D6800EEE is elliptical.

I believe Pickering ceased manufacturing years ago. But can you fit a Stanton Stylus on a Pickering cartridge?

Hi coopmv,

Some Stanton and Pickering styli will interchange. The D11S will fit any 681EEE-S Mk II or III, for example. Pickering had a version of this cartridge which was every bit as excellent as the Stanton.

Was Pickering a division of Stanton? Pickering might have been bought out by Stanton in the early 80's.

Pickering and Stanton are different trade names of the same company.
