Well I guess we all are line up here then...
Hold on I'm gonna copy my question from DCC.....
I'm pretty new to DVD A and also to those "old" recordings! Ofcourse, I do know my favorite groups "old" recordings - but I do want to know about some other interesting titles in DVD A (& SACD for that matter).. But this time I'm looking for the 2 Grateful Dead DVD A titles.. Which one 2 go for?
Thanks
Jeffrey

Hi Jesper,
The two Dead releases on DVD-A (Workingman's Dead & American Beauty) are very different. Workingman's has a much more folky/country influence w/ banjo, mandolin, etc. instruments. Jammin' is a key part of Workingman's. Beauty focuses on the vocals w/ heavy CSN influence. Garcia did not do a single solo on Beauty. The more popular choice would be Beauty. Pesonally, I gotta have both.

You'll definately want to check out The Eagles:Hotel California. One of the best DVD-A's to date.

Jesper,
You will definitely want to get both Grateful Dead DVD-Audio discs. Of the 40 DVD-A's I own, these two discs stand at the top of the list in sonic quality.
I got the Doobie Bros. disc last week, and that one is also a stunner with regards to sound quality.

Hi Mike,
Now I have to ask - what titles does everyone else have.. I mean, since I'm new to DVD Audio and I only have 7 titles in my collection.. I would like to hear some tips! :D
OK?

My favorite DVD-A titles go as follows:
1. Hotel California - The Eagles
2. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery
3. American Beauty - Grateful Dead
4. Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
5. Steely Dan - Two Against Nature
6. Workingman's Dead - Grateful Dead
7. Captain & Me - Doobie Bros.
The rest, like the Doors LA Woman, are a mixed bag.
The above list is my own opinion, of course. You might like another artist over another, but the DVD-a's above are stunning! There are many DTS and DVD-A Classical discs I don't own though, and many of them can be a mixed bag as well.
Owning a DVD player just is 1/3 of the enjoyment, as having a bonifide DVD-A capable player is KILLER (and now, somewhat inexpensive). What's even better, is a DTS reciever with a DVD-a player that's also DTS capable. Some of the cheaper DTS CDs can be very entertaining!

Sckott,
Your list is very close to mine.
1. Eagles:Hotel California
2. Fleetwood Mac:Rumours
3. Greatful Dead: American Beauty
4. America:Homecoming
5. Doobie Brothers:Captain & Me
6. Greatful Dead: Working Man's Dead
7. Carly Simon: No Secrets
It seems to me that they're getting better and better with the mix quality. (Learning Curve?)

I find the lists above to be very good starting points for quality DVD-A discs.
I might add:
Deep Purple - Machine Head
Blue Man Group - Audio
Buena Vista Social Club
as additional DVD-Audio discs to seek out.
