Kimber Cable is prime cut, and I do use em, I also use Monster Cable opical cables and interconnects. People should look into DIY cables as well. I tend to use interconnects that make sense. If I'm using an average Sony CD player analog-wize, I use average gold or tin interconnects. No big whoop. I'm partially quoting someone else when I say "there's no use getting speaker cable and interconnects that makes you think 'penis envy'"

There's interconnect and speaker cable both good and great, but I prefer most over 16 gage. EVEN if you choose Rat Shack for convenience, I'm for getting gold tip or gold RCA's because it's not that much more expensive, and it makes a clean connect with no sign of corrosion. It's not that I'll ever get this WOAH from sound staging if I use "Big Bertha" wire or not, fer me. :confused:

If you're using high-end equipment though, stay away from average Radio Shack wire in whole. Monster Cable medium gage stuff is worth it, but don't go out of control... :p
It's simply not worth it IMHO. Getting mostly gold interconnects for your RCAs *are* worth it because of the reliability. Between three rooms, I do a lot of equipment 'rolling' and switching, but gold interconnects, (especially for video!) are a good spent investment. Sucks buying more crappy rat shack RCA patch cables. No. Do it right. You spend less collectively this way. :D

I use boring-*** monster cable for my interconnects and am currently using 8-strand silver data cable for my speakers (best thing I ever did for my system - TOTALLY thrilled).

I use Cat 5 speaker cables made according to the design posted by ChrisVH on Audio Asylum and on his site. I made the full 27 wire braid, and they are terminated with Kimber PostMasters. These were a bear to make but are a nice match in my system (Arcam Alpha 10 and Paradigm Mini Monitors). See ChrisVH cables (http://www.geocities.com/venhaus1/diycatfivecables.html)

My interconnect is Coincident CST-IC, which is a very fine cable. It takes at least 100 hours to break in and mine is still improving at around 200 hours.

16 gauge copper wire. Anything thinner is using some of the power from your amp. Anything esoteric is psychological and is God's way of telling you you're making too much money.

I'm a mid-fi cable (Monster) myself. Then again, my system is currencty mid-fi. There's never a need for mating $200 cables with a $500 amp. Then there's always the law of diminishing returns....

I use Kimber cables(interconnect and speaker)I love them, there very open and natural. I'm use them as a hedge on upgrading. I understand the laws of diminising returns, but think of it this way, you can keep the cables for years, so if you buy the more expensive cable now for the equipment you have, when you buy better equipment you don't have to upgrade the cables too! and there already broken in and you've gotten use out of them. So it pays for itself in the long run. ;)

I had some cables made up of Belden 142B/U MIL-C-17D and Neutrik RCA connectors. Sounds OK and not mega bucks, nor unmanagable diameter.
