It's Norwegian, but the model number is MEX-DV2000. SACDs in the car is about 10 years too late. Anyone remember DAT decks for the car? I do lol

SACD in the car!? What a freeking' joke! I have a pricey, modern automobile and must say, the interior noise floor is far and away too high to make the extra fidelity of SACD even remotely valid! Hell, I have always maintained that MP3 is a perfect format for car audio!

Yes - why does Sony keep making new SACD hardware (PS3, car players, etc.), but they have basically fully abandonded the software side. Makes no sense to me.

Wow...there were DAT decks for automobiles?! I thought I was crazy for once having a MiniDisc deck in my Acura. It was broken into one day, and after the perp broke off the faceplate only to discover that the load slot was too narrow and a little too fat to be for CDs, he took off and left the deck useless in its adultered state. LOL

I'm still hoping Pioneer would come out with a universal player for the car--I'm sure it would not take much to condense the electronics of something as simple as a 578A into an in-dash unit. Too late now, though. :sigh:

Ok, rough translation:


Sony launches the first car stereos with sacd.

As the MEX-DV1000 and MEX-DV2000 players launches, many - including us here at Sound&Picture (largest av-mag in norway) - predict that this music format never will take off comercially. Event though there are more titles than ever.

Sony still believes in sacd, and launches the MEX-DV1000 with stereo playback and MEX-DV2000 with multichannel surround.

Later this summer will see the launch of the top-of-the line XAV-W1 with wvga TFT touch panel and both stereo and surround.

The reason for the delay (for sacd-players) is the lack of usable silicon for such a demanding process. (note: this sentence doesn't make much sense in norwegian either, I guess it's from sort of marketing press-blurb). The new models are the result of a large development program at sony, and includes a new radical chassi (?) called DRIVE-S II. The new models also have top quality circuit board to meet the demands of automobile hirez sound.

They don't think it will be a hit...
