Yes, it's true. A small unit for the family room that I can play CD's on. I have no idea how much these should cost. Anyone know? The 'Net is so confusing... Where can I buy one of these puppies?

In Buffalo NY, they have Bose stores. But I'm sure there is something closer to you....

I'm pretty sure there is a Bose outlet store in the Outlet Mall near where you are.

They have to pay for all those ads somehow....

I recommend a JBL Harmony over a Bose. However, the Harmony can be twitchy about CD-Rs recorded at fast speeds.

Edit: I posted an eBay link, but both units have failing CD drives. Why would anyone bid on one of these units with a failing CD drive? Oh well, back to the Bose Wave discussion . . .

Try a Denon DM33 mini-system instead. Better sound, possibly similar price in US

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=jbl+harmony

All I play is CD-R's so that wouldn't work...

I can't have a stereo in that room (3 year old playing in there all the time and new baby on the way) and every boom box I've ever tried sounds dreadful at any volume. This Audi dealer I know has a Bose Wave player in the showroom and it sounds acceptable (bass ok and not boomy, top end not boosted, hint of a real midrange, etc.) So, that's what I need!

Call the Times and hold the front page!!

Bose do not allow dealers to discount. So buy it on Amazon and avoid CA sales tax and get free delivery. At least you'll be able to tell us then what an overpriced underperforming con it really is.

If you have to pay full price for a Bose, I'd look elsewhere. But I have no idea what to suggest.

How about speakers mounted in the walls or ceiling with a CDP and receiver? Or B&O - they had some pretty nifty stuff at one time. They had wall mounted speakers, IIRC.....

Just a thought.

plus:

plus CD player of your choice.

The T-Amp and Insignia speakers and CD player of your choice sounds like a better bargain than a Bose Wave radio.

Denon DM33S - $350 - $500 depending on your luck. Heck if it's going to a high risk environment with the kids and all, why not go used and get it even cheaper? Give the money to Denon instead and smile broader hehe ;)

This might not be the best forum to ask this question on. Probably more on this topic on QVC or the Home Shopping Network.
