Do not buy this DVD for "One-Eyed Jacks" as the print quality is blurry and the print is pan and scanned and not letterboxed. For this movie, get the Digiview DVD which although the packaging from Digiview claims it is pan and scanned, the print is letterboxed and the print quality is clear as crystal. The movie to buy the PC Treasures DVD for is "Any Gun Can Play" with Edd Byrnes and George Hilton, which is presented in letterbox and the print quality is just as clear.

Thanks for the Bradley!...how are they packaged? where did you pick them up?

Both DVDs are packaged with slimline standard DVD cases and the Digiview I picked up at Wal-Mart a few years ago and the PC Treasures I just picked up today at Target. They do have the Digiview One-Eyed Jacks at my local Dollar Tree, and as I mentioned, the Digiview DVD is the way to go for One-Eyed Jacks for the clarity and great sound and letterboxed picture while the PC Treasures version is blurry and pan and scanned.

I had a dvd of One-Eyed Jacks a few years ago that was unlistenable. The soundtrack was so loud you could not hear what they were saying. I actually threw it away, it was that bad.
I payed $7.99 for it.

ONE EYED JACKS is one of the most fascinating and unusual of westerns, not only due to the setting, but just for Brando's presence and direction. Yeah, at times some things are shot as if Brando were trying to meditate on the scenery as George Stevens did in SHANE; and, yes, sometimes Brando seems to wallow in a certain masochism(his imprisonment; his being maimed by a former friend-turned-nemesis). And Malden seemed to relish his role as a villain, something he rarely got to do.

Didn't he beat some guy down and then say, "get up, you tub of guts"? For some reason that made me laugh out loud, my wife gave me the strangest look.
I live on the Monterey Peninsula and most of that movie was shot here, if my memory is correct.

Yes, most of One Eyed Jacks was shot on the Monterey Peninsula, and I agree that this is one of the most fascinating and unusual westerns ever made. A classic and a must see.

I hope this doesn't sound stupid, but I've never heard of a Dollar Store, I guess they don't have any around here? Thanks for the links Brad.

Dollar stores are stores like Dollar Tree where they sell most everything for a dollar. There are also stores such as Dollar General or Family Dollar where they sell lots of items for $1 but they also sell items for up to $20.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies. I have a Laserdisc of it that looks and sounds very nice, which I've burned to DVD-R. I just love watching this movie. Brando is the ultimate good/bad guy Billy the Kid type movie star cowboy hero...to me anyway.

I went for years once without seeing this movie...hadn't seen it since I was a kid. I had it in my head that at the end when Brando and the girl are fleeing out of town and Malden fires one last shot as he lay dying in the street, that the shot actually hits his step daughter and she dies in Brando's arms in the last scene. I saw this in the 60s when I was a kid when a Miami tv station aired it. It got me to wondering if it was possible that there was more than one ending made and somehow a tv station in So. Fla. got a hold of the wrong one...?

Then again, could be I just remembered it wrong :).

I know she might not be your typical beauty, but I always thought Katy Jurado was a hot tamale!

Had to visit 3 Dollar Tree stores before I found a copy of the Digiview One-Eyed Jacks ... the last store had about 10 copies ... they were 50 cents each ... what a deal ... I bought a few extras for friends ... the picture quality is very good (I am about halfway thru it) ... and it's widescreen ...

I picked a copy of the other one ... at Target ... again for 50 cents ... also got a copy of The Man With the Golden Arm ... the qaulity looked good based on the screen shots on the back of the case ... not too big of a risk ... for 50 cents ;) ...

I do have the PC Treasures Man With The Golden Arm/Suddenly DVD and the transfers are excellent and in my opinion, the PC Treasures transfer of "Suddenly" is much better than the Treasure Box Collection DVD.

Digiview and Brentwood both put out the definitive DVD versions of "Beneath The 12-Mile Reef." They both come from a very clear widescreen print, excellent quality, while the Brentwood "Drums In The Deep South" is much clearer than the Digiview version of it.

I'm glad you did because the LD is the source that Digiview used and you don't have to buy the DVD.

It is a really good picture. Pull it out and enjoy. You don't need to seek out the Digiview DVD if you have the laserdisc.

Bradley, Do you have "At War With The Army"?

If so, what is the best quality DVD In your opinion?

How is the Digiview?

also, what other Digiview DVD's would you highly recommend?

I have "At War With The Army" on Treasure Box Collection. "The Jackie Robinson Story" is great on Digiview. Just about anything Digiview is worth trying as more often than not, they have seem to be great, although the Digiview "Drums of The Deep South" isn't as good as the Brentwood transfer of it. "Beneath The 12-Mile Reef" is worth it either on Brentwood or Digiview and came from the same source. "Evel Knievel" is great on Digiview, "An Amazing Adventure" on Digiview uses a better print than the Platinum Disc Corporation release of it.

Night of The Living Dead is great on Digiview as well. The best low budget PD DVD release of the movie I have ever seen and it's only $1 or less.
