Universal Studios is the owner of Decca, Geffen, MCA and several other music labels. Some of the original records on the Decca label have been re-issued from their original master tapes. Some of the MCA recordings like those of Jimmy Buffett and the group Steely Dan have been re-released in 24 karat gold.

While they began as a record store in Los Angeles in 1973, it was re-issuing an album by the Turtles in November of 1978 that began their long-standing spot as one of the premier re-issue labels around. While they do not feature 24 karat gold CD's, they have gone to great lengths to make sure that great music from the 60s and 70s (actually the 20s through the 90s) was not forgotten, but rather re-issued on Compact Disc!! Their boxed sets are especially important to not forgetting that Sam & Dave sang many more wonderful songs than just "Soul Man".

Probably better known for their magazines and books on home and auto repair, Time-Life has put together some super collections of songs from the 30s through the 80s. Some of their best collections include "Your Hit Parade" covering the 40s and 50s as well as their "Dick Clark's Rock and Roll Era" collections that cover from the late 50s into the  early 60s and my favorite, the "Sounds Of" collections that span from 1962 through 1989. They also have big band, country and other collections as well. While not all of their CDs come from the absolute original master tapes like Rhino, they generally sound good and while I am not officially endorsing any company on this page, I own several Time-Life collections.
